Tasmanian truffle growers say the export of their product to the mainland and overseas has been severely affected by the closure of top end restaurants.

The winter harvest is beginning and over the past few months growers have had to find new markets mainly for people at home experimenting with truffles.

Some growers are getting orders from cafes and restaurants as the lockdowns are eased but it will take a long time before the industry is back to normal.

One grower at Deloraine Henry Terry says the closure of restaurants has been offset by an increased online demand from consumers cooking more at home.
